FAQ

Common questions

Is the trail fee mandatory?

Yes since 2024. Pay at the trail entrance gate during the climbing season, July to early September.

Can I climb without booking a hut?

Yes, but rangers strongly discourage it. Bullet climbing in one shot is exhausting and altitude sickness risk goes up sharply.

Is renting gear in Kawaguchiko cheaper than buying?

For a one-time climb, yes. Quality outdoor gear cheaper than ¥10,000 rarely lasts a single Fuji climb.

What about credit cards?

Carry cash. Many huts and the trail gate are cash only. Bring at least ¥30,000 in addition to your card.
