Yes, on clear days from elevated viewpoints like Tokyo Skytree, the Shibuya Sky deck, Tokyo Tower and Mt Takao. Clearest from November to February when the air is driest.

What is the best time of year to see Mt Fuji?

Do I need a JR Pass to visit Mt Fuji?

Not strictly. The cheapest route from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi is the highway bus from Shinjuku, not covered by JR Pass. A pass becomes worthwhile if you also visit Kyoto or do multiple Shinkansen legs.

How long does it take to get to Mt Fuji from Tokyo?

2 hours by Fuji Excursion limited express to Kawaguchiko, 1h 45m by highway bus from Shinjuku. Hakone is 1h 30m via Odakyu Romancecar.

Which side of the Shinkansen has Mt Fuji?

On the Tokaido Shinkansen between Tokyo and Osaka, sit on the right side going west (D or E seat). Fuji is visible for about 7 minutes between Mishima and Shin-Fuji on clear days.

Can I day trip Mt Fuji from Tokyo?

Yes. A common day plan is highway bus to Kawaguchiko, lake walk, ropeway to Mt Tenjo, lunch, return bus. Tight but doable in 10 hours door to door.

When is Mt Fuji climbing season?

Yoshida trail: 1 July to 10 September. Subashiri, Gotemba, Fujinomiya: 10 July to 10 September. Outside these dates the trails are officially closed.

Do I need a permit to climb Mt Fuji?

From 2024 the Yoshida trail requires online reservation and ¥4,000 fee, with a daily cap of 4,000 climbers. All four trails now charge ¥4,000.

Is Mt Fuji snow capped right now?

What is Diamond Fuji?

The optical event when the rising or setting sun sits exactly on the summit. Best seen from Lake Yamanaka in winter (sunset) and Lake Tanuki in April and August (sunrise).

Is there an entrance fee at Mt Fuji?

Viewpoints are free. Hakone Lake Ashi pirate ship and Subaru Line 5th Station bus have separate fees. Climbing the four trails costs ¥4,000 per climber from 2025.
