The first snow cap of the season (hatsukansetsu) is officially declared by the Kofu Meteorological Observatory and typically falls between late September and mid October. By early November the cap is usually thick enough to be visible from Tokyo on clear days.
The snow cap melts off the summit between late May and mid June. July and August are the only months with a reliably bare cone.
