Itinerary
Mount Fuji in 2 days.
Two days is the sweet spot for Mount Fuji - enough time to handle a single cloudy morning, ride the ropeway, hike to Chureito Pagoda and still sleep in a real onsen ryokan. Here is exactly how we'd run it.
Day 1
Arrive, view, soak
- 07:30Highway bus departs Shinjuku for Kawaguchiko.
- 09:15Drop bags at your ryokan or guesthouse near the station.
- 10:00Take the Kachi Kachi ropeway up Mount Tenjo for the wide Fuji panorama.
- 12:00Hoto noodles at Hoto Fudo (try the iconic igloo-shaped restaurant).
- 13:30Lake Kawaguchi south shore and Oishi Park for flowers and the classic mirror Fuji.
- 16:00Check in. Onsen and dinner at your stay.
Day 2
Pagoda, peak, home
- 06:00Early start. The summit is almost always clearer at dawn.
- 06:45Train two stops to Shimoyoshida for Chureito Pagoda.
- 07:30Climb the 400 steps for the postcard Fuji-with-pagoda view.
- 10:00Return to Kawaguchiko. Coffee at one of the lakeside cafes.
- 11:30Optional: Subaru Line bus to the 5th Station at 2305 m.
- 15:00Highway bus back to Shinjuku. Arrive Tokyo around 17:00.
