Iconic viewpoint
A five storey pagoda above Fujiyoshida, reached after a 398 step climb through cherry trees. The platform looks straight across to Fuji and is the single most photographed Fuji angle in Japan.

JR Chuo Line to Otsuki, then Fujikyuko Line to Shimo Yoshida Station. 10 minute walk plus 398 steps to the viewing terrace. Allow 2 hours from Shinjuku.
A 35 to 70 mm lens frames pagoda and Fuji well. The terrace platform is small, queues form for the front rail. Sunrise gives clean pink light on Fuji and no harsh shadows on the pagoda.
Park and pagoda grounds are free. The pagoda itself is closed to the public. Toilets at the lower park entrance. Bring water in summer, the climb is steep.
