The Fuji Five Lakes region is one of the best places to ride in Japan - flat lakeshore loops for beginners and one of the great hill climbs in the world for anyone with strong legs.

Lake Kawaguchi loop

20 km · +150 m

Mostly flat shoreline path. Beginner friendly, perfect on rental e-bikes from Kawaguchiko Station.

Lake Yamanaka loop

14 km · +80 m

Wide separated cycle path the whole way around the largest of the five lakes.

Lake Saiko + Aokigahara edge

25 km · +250 m

Quieter forest-fringed ride. Combine with the bat cave and Iyashi-no-Sato thatched village.

Five-lake gravel grand tour

85 km · +900 m

Full circuit of all five lakes via the rolling roads between them. A full day for fit riders.

Mount Fuji hill climb (Subaru Line)

24 km · +1270 m

Sea-of-clouds finish at the 5th Station. Closed to cars one day each June for the official race.

Where to rent

Kawaguchiko Station and the surrounding lakefront have several rental shops offering city bikes (~¥1,500 a day), e-bikes (~¥3,500) and road bikes (~¥5,000). Bring your own helmet if you can - rental options are limited. Book ahead on weekends from April to November.
