Dates and bloom
Festival typically runs 12 April to 25 May. Peak bloom falls in early May. Check the official site near your dates as bloom shifts a week or two by year.
Spring festival
Shibazakura carpet at Mt Fuji.
From mid April to late May around half a million moss phlox plants turn the Motosuko Resort pink, with Fuji rising directly behind. The festival runs daily during the season.
Access
Shibazakura Liner bus from Kawaguchiko Station to the venue, around 40 minutes. Combined bus and entry ticket is the cheapest option and skips the queue.
Best angle
Climb the small viewing mound at the back of the site. Morning gives front light on Fuji. Calm wind helps the reflection on the small artificial pond.
Tips
Snow can still cap Fuji in early May, the contrast with the pink carpet is the classic shot. Food court has Fuji themed sweets, expect a wait at lunchtime.
